What to expect

Brutally honest story on declining Hubspot M&A offer

An alternate-reality version of M&A success in startup land

40 min fireside chat with Rand + 15 min Q&A

Limited to 30 seats for founders of high-growth startups

Topics for founders who wonder how M&A really works:
  • When you should sell: how to avoid pride and deal with the emotions
  • M&A from the founder’s side: how acquisition process looks from inside
  • When things don’t work as expected: a dive into Moz’s failed M&A attempt
About the speaker:

Rand Fishkin co-founded Moz, growing it from a Mom-and-son marketing agency into one of the premier SEO products in the world. He’s also the author of Lost and Founder, the not-so-fairytale story of his rise and fall at Moz.

Focused on changing the narrative for founders and startups, Rand has been through the M&A process three times: refusing a $25M offer from Hubspot in 2011, failing to sell later, and eventually, the new CEO selling Moz for an undisclosed amount. Today, he runs SparkToro, an audience search engine for marketers and Snackbar Studio, an indie gaming company, each built to avoid the grow-or-die Silicon Valley culture.
